CanadaHelps is an online donation platform. We have strict privacy policies in place and are not allowed to take credit card information over the phone or able to cash cheques, therefore, all donations need to be made online.

Is there a minimum donation for me to get a tax receipt?
The minimum donation amount required in order to receive a tax receipt is $3.00
The system is asking me to set up a donor account? Do I have to do this?
You don’t have to sign up for an account to make one-time donations using CanadaHelps. However, by having an account you can take advantage of features such as monthly giving or being able to choose how you’d like to receive your tax receipts. Having a donor account also makes it easy to download all of your tax receipts and gives you the option of saving your Credit Card information to make future donations easier.
I forgot my password. How can I reset it?
If you’ve forgotten your password or would like it reset it, click here to be taken directly to the Forgotten Password page.
You can also go to CanadaHelps.org, and click on the “Sign In” button in the upper right hand corner of the page. On the “Sign In” page, please click on “Forgot your password?”, in red, under the password field and next to the red “Sign In” button. The system will then ask you to enter your email address so we can send you a password reset link over email.
Will you mail my tax receipt(s) at the end of the year?
We do not mail paper tax receipts. CanadaHelps is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to increase charitable giving and it’s critical to our mission that we pass along as much as possible out of every dollar we collect. One way of achieving this goal is to issue tax receipts via email only. Over the years, the cost of mailing receipts by post has made it cost-prohibitive.
The CRA does NOT require a paper copy to submit with your taxes. You only need to keep an electronic copy of the receipt, which was emailed immediately after your donation. If you are looking for a copy of your receipt(s), you can log in to your donor account or use our Receipt Download tool.
I’d like to donate to a charity, but I’d like to decide what personal information they will receive
Anonymity preferences give our donors three options to choose from when they make their donations:
– Please provide only my name and email address to the charity or charities I’m supporting with this donation,
– Please provide my name, email and mailing address to the charity or charities I’m supporting with this donation, or
– No, please do not provide my name, email or mailing address to the charity or charities I’m supporting with this donation.
You can also save your preferred anonymity preference under “Account Settings“. You will still be able to change it for individual donations if you would like.
How do I update my personal information, payment details and account preferences?
Any changes to your personal information or preferences, such as the email or mailing address in your account, your credit card number, or anonymity and tax receipt preferences, can be updated in your donor account.
- Log in to your donor account
- Click on the ‘Account Settings‘ tab
3. Scroll through the different sections to complete your necessary changes.
TIP: Make sure to click on the “Save” buttons as you update your information, to ensure no changes are lost.
Where do I find my favourite charities?
To view the list of your favourite charities, sign into your donor account, and click on the Favourites tab.
To add more charities to your list, enter the name of the charity you’d like to add under “FIND CHARITIES TO FAVOURITE,” and hit the “Search Charities” button. In the pop-up list of results, find the charity and click on the “★ Add” button. Any charity you make a donation to will also be automatically added to this list.
What is a CanadaHelps Partner Giving Program?
CanadaHelps is continually working to offer new and more innovative services to help grow charitable giving in Canada and to make giving easier and more efficient. CanadaHelps now has special agreements in place with a variety of corporations to support their unique giving programs. Donations made through one of these programs are identified with the Donation Source “CanadaHelps Partner Giving Program.” In some cases, our standard CanadaHelps fees will apply while in other cases the fee deducted may be lower or higher. Specifically,
– No fee will apply if the partner has chosen to cover the CanadaHelps fee.
– A lower fee will apply if CanadaHelps is able to pass along savings having received all program donations in one cheque eliminating credit card processing fees.
– A higher fee will apply when a partner is providing service to promote charitable giving and they take a fee in addition to the CanadaHelps fee. We only enter such relationships where the partner fee is a reasonable percent and we believe they are uniquely positioned to grow charitable giving.
Does CanadaHelps accept physical certificates of securities?
Yes, we do!
If you have your own broker, the fastest way for you to receive your charitable tax receipt and for your charities of choice to receive the funds is for you to first convert the certificates to electronic records. Once you’ve done so, you can make an online pledge through the CanadaHelps website.
Converting physical certificates will involve you delivering the securities to your broker with a request to add them to your electronic account. You may have to sign them and complete some additional paperwork. Check with your broker for details.
If you do not have your own broker, CanadaHelps can accept donations of physical certificates and handle the conversion process for you; however, unlike our usual process to accept donations of securities which typically takes 1-2 weeks, the processing of physical certificates can take several months.
If you have a physical certificate you wish to donate, please make your pledge online. A member of our support team will follow up with you to explain the timelines, and answer any questions you have about next steps.
